We must force and shame, by our behavior and choices, our fellow Armenians to learn and to behave as such. Administratively, religiously, in every sermon and speech, the church must shame the transformation of the Armenian to American in every way and not succumb to the horrifying transition that must be brought to an end, to draw their souls back to the eternality and reality of Armenian identity. One cannot allow them to slip into the ways of the lands on which they have found refuge. Not only in act but in speech, we must behave as Armenians in our homes, in our churches, with our close friends, even in the public eye at times to retain our nature and our history intact.
But look, they are becoming so Americanized, so French, or of the country in which they live. Let us cater to them, one may say, and speak English, act American, so that they may feel welcome and at ease.
No, they must learn in the fires of shame how to be Armenian again, to retain their nature, or to find it buried in the tombs of their fathers.
