Christianity is set in stone, it does not change.
When Christ expresses his love, that is infinite, surpassing our knowledge or comprehension, he is reminding you of eternity, that he wishes to have you there, beside him.

When you practice Christianity, you are not practicing managing emotions or acquiring peace, rather you are practicing a religion that leads to eternity in heaven with Jesus Christ. It is the Way that looks above, that looks beyond this hour to eternity. It is about heaven and seeking a way there.
Christianity is not simply loving God in an arbitrary way, it is about eternal life, believing rightly and loving God in Jesus Christ truly to one day be with Him eternally.
Believing in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the true God, is the faith, and believing in the Holy Trinity.
It is the promise of eternal life that God has given to us. We may know we have eternal life now by believing in Jesus Christ, for St. John writes that he himself is writing his letter so that you may know that you have eternal life.
