This command is mysterious, the first and the most indiscernible. Is it that we must merely cast out other gods, like the sun god, from our minds? Or the god of fertility as a form of worship? It is possible.
However, what is more deeply intended here is not that we merely do not have other gods before the One True God, but that we worship him as this. What is this word worship? It is to give highest value, creatorship to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When one bows down to worship a statue, they are worshipping this statue, giving undue value to it. Ascribing to it powers unknown and likely unreal. Have within you or for moments throughout the day, ascribing this reverence, this regard, this heightening of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to the stature he rightfully deserves, your Creator, your father, your craftsman.
It is simple. Worship and bow down before the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
