The desire to be another person is not love, it is satanic envy. The desire to become God is neither love nor virtue. In the words of St. Athanasius, “God became man that men may become God.” However, this implies a union so close that it is like a becoming, but not as we think of it. Do not desire to be another, desire the imitation of those who are holy, the union with Christ, the union with God, the union with eternity, remaining as you are but transformed, deified, glorified, illumined.
