The mark of a king of heaven is to be beaten, to be wounded, to be impaled by spear, by nail, by thorns. It is a mark of a king, to be beaten momentarily for this short time, in order to reign for eternity not only in heaven but on earth. The wounds we bear are various but the reality of the suffering, the crucifixion the same. Every king has a cross, and that cross, wrongfully placed upon his shoulders, wrongfully nailed to his body, is the mark of his heavenly regality.
