What is work? The primal work of humanity is tending to and managing the created order and cosmos. Work is not simply about laboring for its own sake or for a reward, but laboring to be connected to and in connection with the whole of existence and creation for the purpose of this relation. The garden of eden was tended by Adam and Eve, this labor was not a task to keep them busy but a means to be connected to and contribute to the created order and cosmos. Work is a way towards this connection and contribution, not merely a distraction or a labor for effort’s sake or for some spiritual or physical compensation.
