Blessed are the poor in spirit, yet I am arrogant and prideful in mind.

Blessed are those who mourn, yet I am he who rejoices when he ought to be in sorrow.

Blessed are the merciful, yet I am he who does not return forgiveness.

Blessed are the meek, yet I am he who is easily incited to rage.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, yet I am he who hungers and thirst for the foods and waters of this earth.

Blessed are the pure in heart, yet I am as those with defiled intent and of darkened thoughts.

Blessed are those who are persecuted, yet I am he who is derided for his sins rather than his righteous acts.

Where there is arrogance give me humility,

Where there is lack of repentance, may there be the deepest sorrows and the sweetest tears,

Where there is bitterness, may there be the mercy and cross of Christ,

Where there are the fires of rage, may there be the coolness of a quiet and gentle heart,

Where there is gluttony and sensuality and acts of the flesh, may there be the longing for your kingdom and the ways of the saints and of the just, the dryness of the deserts of the ascetics.

Where there is impurity and lust, give me a clean heart and the undefiled vision, an illuminated mind,

Where there is sin, may there be the holiness and love that proceeds from your Triune nature.

Do not leave me cursed, rather give me, Lord, the blessings of the beatitudes, and a place in your kingdom which I may call my own.
