Witchcraft and sorcery was never confronted with the sword in the early Christian teaching. It was confronted either by God upon the rebuke of an Apostle, causing the death of the sinner by the Holy Spirit, or by the command to be cast out and rebuked and driven away in public setting in the eyes of all.
This was sufficient for St. Paul the Apostle on one occasion and on others sufficient for St. Peter the Apostle.
