To say you cannot become like Christ is reasonable as he is both God and man, though we may try to imitate him as far as is humanly possible as St. John Climacus defines as what a Christian is. However, to say that we cannot become saints or reach their rank, in this life at least, is a self-defeating position, not only because you are defeated in saying such a thing but also because the saints are human examples meant to instill zeal in our souls and minds to guide us into the living fire of the love of Christ, to become like them and reach their ranks.
