An Act of Perfect Contrition
My Lord and my God, full of light, fountain of love, gift of immortality, union of salvation, eternal life, I am sorry, mourning from the depths of my heart for having sinned against thee and for acting, thinking, and speaking in offense of you. A shame I am, in darknesses, tragedies, sins, and iniquities and impurities, a defiled body, a clouded intellect, a broken spirit, a shattered soul, a ruinous heart. Look at me in my sins, I am pathetic, I am nothing, I am grevious, I am worthless. I hold full hatred from my heart for all my sins on account of your just and holy and corrective punishments which are rightly and mercifully placed in my life, yet most of all, I hold full hatred in my heart on account of my sins, numerous and infinite in wrong, that have offended you, my love, my Lord and my God, who art infinite goodness, the source of life, the giver of bliss, and the nature of love itself. Thou art worthy of all the love and devotion that I can give and here I give it. I firmly resolve, with the help of thy grace, to sin no more, to cast my sins aside, to rise with you, your Son from the darkness of sins into the light of heaven and of your Holy Spirit, and to flee the places, the persons, and that which in anything draws me away from you, your love, your comfort, your bliss and nearer to sin and iniquity, from which you have delivered me, and I pray and beseech, upon my bended knees, that you will do and save me this hour unto eternal life and unto the union with your Son, Jesus Christ, and all thy saints in heaven.
Amen
