Material discovery pinpointing the location of certain functions or abilities does not nullify immaterial cause or existence. For every immaterial element or function has a causal connection or manifestation to materiality, or else immateriality would in fact be unessential. Therefore, the habit of reducing all things to material causes upon finding or locating the material cause is not sound, for the material cause is simply a manifestation of an immaterial element or function. Even if images were to be found in the brain when thought, even within the neuron, it is still the mind from which the image proceeds, and imprinted upon the brain on the neurological level.
This is not backing up into the unknown, it is in fact the opposite, it is showing the deep union of the immaterial with the spiritual on a particle level, not relegating all to invisible and unknowable spiritual functions. It is putting what is spiritual in the realm of the known. The closer and more deeply we know the material, the more deeply we may see and behold the immaterial and spiritual. We may see the residue of eternity in the dust and remains and knowable and affected substances of the material world, even biological physicality.
Let’s go find God, and look first in the heart of man.
