There was once a man who prayed not on his knees, nor standing, but simply and casually as he lived his life. He had a counterpart, an acquaintance, who upon hearing that this man as a Christian never prays, began to bow the knee in his room, at church, and even in other appropriate settings of worship, and being seen by many was named a good man, a holy person.

The man of unceasing prayer, neither bowing nor making any display, was named the opposite, a hypocrite, a deceiver, still seeking the great silence of inner prayer.

As both were raised into heaven, God in silence bowed the knee before the man of unceasing prayer though he never attained that great silence of the saints. And the Great Abraham turning to the other, congratulated the acquaintance for having attained such great silence.

As the acquaintance smiled like a devil thinking he deceived even the Father Almighty, was then cast into hell amidst the laughter and joy of heavenly company, as he recognized the comedy of the King and God.
