It is clear that there is a command in St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians that one ought not to appear in court with others but to resolve disputes internally with church authorities; however, when church authorities have continued to fail to resolve issues despite repeated attempts, those of Christian faith are made vulnerable to abuse from others and even at times those appointed as their leaders. Further, the command is not easily applied to the modern day world as the law at the time did not recognize God or have respect for religion, but rather persecuted Christians publicly to death. Today, the American system affirms religion within the 1st Amendment and also incorporates the God of theism in its contents. One may sue anyone who has wronged him with justification even suing a priest of the holy church which he remains loyal to as a baptized, practicing, and saved Christian.

It may even be said that it is a civic duty, a responsibility to country, as virtue of piety to country, to bring to the law the wrongs which one has faced or observed in his experience.
