Death is a challenge like no other. It is the dread of the human spirit. The death of another, that is loved, is a loss that is unspeakable, for to lose one whom we loved, is to lose our very home, our own heart cleaved, our very selves. We lose everything with the loss of some, we lose our own identities, the history books of our lives, only memories, undergirding our sense of self nearly wiped clean and burned in its fires, from which they may never be recovered and rewritten.

There is another longing that is far greater, a longing that arches over the moon, it reaches over the darkened skies and makes its home forever in the heart of the one we have lost. The longing for the one we have lost, the longing for his or her immortality, so that being immortal we may love again, and love forever.

The birth of that longing is the dread of death, for in becoming a song, an eternal reach, it sees the promised peak, where death is no longer but consumed and forgotten, its history forever erased.
