Armenian hymns are not simply holy, they are castles of holiness, producing a longing that is from another world, from the holiest place. It is not mere reverence but a sturdiness, a structure, a fortress of it. Surrounded by it, protected by it, you see that God and his fragrance is not of this world, but beyond in a way that the mind may never conceive without first listening to the hymns and being Armenian. It is not a mere song or music, it is a physical entity, which upon entrance surrounds the body and spirit with stone like security and ethereal holy sense that cannot be created but comes from another world. Խորհուրդ Խորհին is one of many of these doors into the fortress of holiness that is known by few. You may spend years seeking God alone or with others, in caves even, yet without these hymns you will never arise from your slumber, from the confusion of common life, and enter within the holiest places and find God as though awaking from a long dream, a deep rest, lost in darkness, thinking it were light. And when given a place in the heart makes us a vessel or rather a pillar of this structure as well.
