If you were to have one thing and only that one thing, what would you ask for apart from God?

It seems to be that whatever we ask for will fall short. For in asking for any one thing, we lose everything else, having only that thing. And in this supplication not being for God himself, it has not a real end, or telos, being worthy in and of itself as God only is.

Then what should we ask for?

Water, bread, sustenance? A gift, a blessing, a person?

We should ask for one thing apart from God: peace to bear all things, all circumstances, and all evils, throughout our whole life until we reach the heaven we long for, to behold God.
