The golden rule is based on the idea that we expect certain behavior from others with the weight of moral standard. When we expect kindness from others as a rule, we are then bound to give that kindness to others. This is the meaning and moral responsibility in doing unto others as you would have them to do unto you. God uses our own rule for others as his rule for us.
