What is love?
The Apostle writes, Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude ... It rejoices in the truth … Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
Love is something we know very well. We long for this nameless substance from the being of God. This is why the Apostle St. Paul does not in fact define love! He describes it, for we know what it is, but we do not have a name for it. We do not know what it is we are doing when we love, for oftentimes, it simply occurs without our noticing. Therefore, when it proceeds from the heart of a man or woman or child, let us remember and have eyes to see the love the pours forth from the Holy Spirit into the hearts of his sons, his children.
